Happy Halloween!

In honor of the “holiday” I wanted to share some information that I have been learning lately that pertains to online business and growing a brand. If you didn’t already know, I’m studying sports marketing in attempt to grow a business of my own. So yeah, let’s jump right into it.

But first I suppose I should mention that I have finally found a mentor that has actually taught me some really great things so far. I’m really glad I was patient enough to wait for someone that was a good fit with me, and that shares the same vision that I do. Shout out to my awesome new mentor, Torri over at Revision Local! She owns the place by the way, which is sort of the direction I am heading with my sports marketing agency.

Anyways, Torri and I have been going over a lot of online marketing materials lately and I have learned a lot.

So when it comes to building a brand online, there are a few factors you need to consider before just jumping in.

For starters, you need to decide who your target audience is and know exactly what their wants, needs, pain points, dreams, desires, etc are so that you can know how to best serve them. With this information, you can know what kind of content to put out on the web to represent your brand. Whether it’s through a blog or website, or you’re doing the whole marketing shindig with social media and other avenues, you need to know who you’re marketing to and why they are seeking your product or service.

Branding is about being where your customers are and letting them know why you are better off serving them than your competitors are.

These days it’s all about online information whether people making purchases online or off, so at least having a social media presence is a must if you want to gain credibility and trust. Most grandparents have social media accounts like Facebook these days, so why shouldn’t your brand? Think about it.

Not only should you have these accounts though, you need to be active on them and engage with customers. Customers are getting on trusted websites such as these so search for information, so you have to provide them with what they are looking for.

Having an information website or blog is a great way to do this as well, depending on your business model, but in almost every case it has proven to provide more credibility along with a more authoritative online presence. There’s something about seeing a product or service listed all over the internet that draws people in through a natural element of trust.

In conclusion, a few of the most important things a brand needs to be successful online include:

  • An active social media presence on platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter
  • An informative website that contains value and builds trust
  • Pictures, video, and other media along with plain text. Some people would rather watch than read

Yep. There you have it.

Put these marketing tips into action and you are sure to see results for growing your brand online.
