Branding, branding, branding. It really does seem like the more you search for ways to become more visible online, the more you see people talking about branding. Ahem, maybe that should say something…

Anyhoo, I have been talking a lot about branding as well here on TS, but that’s because I am a person that sees the power in it.

In my research over the past few months on growing a business online, it has become embedded in my brain that branding is big. But why? Well, aside from all of the fluff and filler, I can say from my own experiences in the trenches that there is a big benefit from it: Authority. 

Let’s think about that for a minute using the example of local businesses. This may be more beneficial if you tie it in with the limo case study about branding that I did a couple of months ago.

So say people are looking online for limo services. If they use more than one means for search (Facebook, Google, Foursquare, Angie’s List) they will more than likely come across the some of the same companies on some, if not all of the sites. By the way, companies that appear at the top of all of these sites will be far and few because not many know what they’re doing.

Anyway, what kind of perception do you think it will create for these searchers if they see the same company listed on all of the authoritative and trusted websites they are listed on. It subconsciously tells them that the company can be trusted and they may feel like they “know” them and may even like them better because they realize they have seen them in more places.

This is simply human psychology at work. And now you see why branding creates big benefits for businesses, and one that many can use to close more customers and sales each month.
